With only 4 weeks and 2 days left until Christmas there seems to be a lot more workers and shoppers gathering in Oxford Street. The weather has changed naturally (cold but not freezing) and there is, I must say, a festive cheer in the air. The Christmas lights are exactly the same as last year, I was hoping for a bit more bling. It goes to show the state of the economy and how slowly but surely companies are spending less. There are some things in life that you can cut down on but not all. People still expect the best possible customer service, taxis to be running around the clock and if I may add competent couriers. We have recruited a few new drivers and riders, some of who are learning the rigorous routes of the London roads. More and more people today want to become couriers some simply just to earn a little more cash (or as I have seen on many occasions) just to get back into work after loosing their jobs or just for the sheer love of it. As Xmas draws near I am noticing how busy we are getting and how much the belt has been tightened within the office. Communication is key and neither Rob (the big gun) nor Leon (the big gun) is having any slackers. As I take a look behind me I realise that what I am saying can’t be far from the truth. “Old Slackers Face The Boot” is the words that sit quite contently on a board for all and sunder to see. Slack? Me? Never? lol. Off the record slightly, this office could do with a Fiony’s make over and by the way if you don’t understand- this means Fiona and Tony’s glamorous crimbo touch! A black tree or white tree? Big bobbles or small ones? Defiantly tinsel and some lights would be great too. That’s my Xmas bonus spent then! Remind me why I like my job again, oh yeah the drivers and riders crack me up each and every day, never a dull moment here I tell you. Lunchtime now and thank God I don’t have to queue up in Sainsbury’s. Really the queue there is ridiculous! It almost like feels as though you’re queuing up to go into Fabric or the Red Back pub on Acton High Street (not that I have been to either).

15.17pm and we are relatively busy today; there goes Sean leaving the door open again. I’m not born in a barn and he has the cheek to ask me why he’s name is not put in a different context on this blog. He’s forgiven rather quickly as I begin to suddenly feel the warmth coming back to me. All the internationals delivered? Check..All POD’s on each docket? Check..Rush Xmas list finished? eer no, Blog? Kinda. Rush Courier stickers needed, were running low, oh and a cuppa tea would be nice just right about now. Sean? (she bellows) ..nothing..lol

Well here we are in London in early August, with two days of rioting and looting behind us, the weather is fine (ish) and I have been asked to direct a photo shoot featuring one of our finest couriers Richard Stevenson whose call number is C891. Me directing a photo shoot? Consider myself more of a songbird personally. Rich manages to meet all the requirements: looking cool, not looking too serious and being a natural. Right you’re done Rich think that a wrap. Somehow I think he rather enjoyed that secretly.

Rush is a successful business and we are based right in the heart of the West end, and minutes from Oxford Circus station. We spend our days transporting goods on a same day basis, sending packages all around the world from our International desk as well as our overnight service APC that delivers parcels all over the United Kingdom. Our aim is always to please our customers and carry out the deliveries as safely and promptly as possible. I don’t like to sound like I’m blowing my trumpet, but we really are a strong team of people that strive to do our very best at all times. We are fortunate to have one of our directors with us throughout the week to guide and oversee the running of the company and sharing with us his expertise in logistics.

I run the Internationals department and sit at the front of the office with my colleague Tony. Both of us are first port of call for everything, well almost. We take bookings by telephone and deal with customer service and any other complications that come our way. Tony is what you call the “king” of customer service and has worked for the company for many years on and off. I consider myself very lucky to be Tony’s partner in crime. Loved by many of our customers (and staff) Tony naturally continues to be a company favourite, especially when he brings in his home made gourmet dishes, love it! Forgot to mention that Tony is also a founder of 2 Charities and to find out more please feel free to browse the links on our website. I must admit I enjoy my job immensely; in fact we both do and actually look forward to coming in to work. Our team consist of Leon Gamble, the company manager. Now this is the man who always has a smile on his face, has patience like I have never seen and when the heat gets too much he never gets over heated himself. (a pay rise would be nice now Leon) lol. Paul Reddy, is one of the Co-controllers and an amiable bloke and very charming. (Must be the Irish side). We then have Sean and Jamie who do the controlling a fantastic pair of guys! Sean Donague is a character and a half I’d say, a sharp controller, a reggae fanatic, immensely humorous and there is never a dull moment in the office with him around. Jamie Haldane joined us late July and has settled in well and a great team player. Another new member of staff is Annis who joined us as the Sales Rep, and already he is proving his skills are good and has introduced new accounts to Rush Couriers. I’m pleased to say we are a proud and reputable company, the proof of this is the standing of many well established companies in the City who we carry out work for. These include Mittal Steel, L’Occitane, Simon and Schuster, Ten UK, Kingsley Napley, Toni & Guy, National Geographic to name but a few. Suddenly Tom (C120) the funniest courier has just walked through the door singing, “How much is that doggy in the window”. This is yet another example of how well the team here get along with a happy spirit. Oh, think he was getting in the spirit to get his photo taken . Well whatever takes your fancy..Ciprian has just dropped in some Internationals so I guess it’s time for me to go. Before I do, I can’t help but over hear faint conversations about the riots and what to expect tonight. Off they go on their bikes and I should really get back to work too. Hope you have enjoyed the blog and I’ll keep you posted! Fi from Rush
